Tool sprawl is the accumulation of separate software tools that each hold part of a company’s data, with no single place where all of it is true.

It is rarely a decision. Each tool was reasonable on its own day. The cost shows up later as per-seat bills that grow faster than headcount, integrations that break quietly, and a customer record that exists in four places with four different answers.
