How do you calculate the return on AI agents?
People multiplied by hours a week on repetitive work, multiplied by 46 working weeks, multiplied by loaded cost an hour, multiplied by the share genuinely automatable. Holiday is already netted out of the working weeks, and nothing is discounted for setup time, so the figure is a ceiling rather than a forecast.
Why does the automatable share default to 30%?
Because it is the number most worth arguing with, and vendors habitually assume far higher. Thirty per cent is deliberately conservative. It is an input rather than a constant precisely so you can set it to what you actually believe.
What counts as repetitive operational work?
Chasing an overdue invoice, answering a question that has been answered before, copying a record from one system into another, writing the same follow-up email, and assembling a report from two exports. Work that follows a rule, rather than work that needs a judgement.
