Definition

A single source of truth is an arrangement where each fact is stored in exactly one place, so there is no possibility of two systems disagreeing about it.

Often claimed and rarely true. Syncing two systems nightly is not a single source of truth: it is two sources with a reconciliation process and a window during which they disagree. The test is whether a fact can be changed in more than one place.
