Definition

An AI chief of staff is a system that reads across a company’s whole operational record, rather than one function, and acts on what it finds.

The distinction from an AI assistant is scope, not capability. An assistant embedded in a CRM can only see CRM records. A chief of staff sees the support ticket, the unpaid invoice, the missed meeting and the contract renewal as facts about the same customer, which is only possible when those are records in one database rather than data in five systems.
