Field mapping

Definition

Field mapping is the step in a migration where each field in the old system is matched to the field in the new one that will hold its data.

Done by hand it is slow and error-prone, and it is most of what an implementation fee pays for. Done well it is proposed automatically and reviewed by a person, so the human job becomes verification rather than data entry.
