Data residency

Definition

Data residency is the requirement that data be stored and processed in a specified country or region.

It is driven by law and by customer contract, and it is asked about early in enterprise procurement. A vendor that cannot say where a given customer’s data sits will struggle to pass a security review regardless of how good the product is.
