Approval gate

Definition

An approval gate is a checkpoint where an automated process pauses and waits for a human decision before committing a change.

Gates are what make an AI that can act safe to give real permissions. The design question is where to place them: gating everything makes automation pointless, gating nothing makes it dangerous. The usual answer is to gate anything that writes to more than one record, or that a customer will see.
